Sunday Notes
A few things I’m reading, watching, cooking, and doing this week.
Hi everyone,
I thought I’d start sharing a slightly more personal Sunday post with a few things I’m enjoying lately — from recipes and books to podcasts and a little bit about what I’ve been up to and am working on.
🎤 2026 Let’s Talk Women’s Health and Wellness Symposium
I had the honor of moderating this amazing breast cancer survivorship panel yesterday at the Let's Talk Women's Health and Wellness Symposium with three incredible women and patient advocates: Sarrah Strimel Bentley, Melissa Berry, and Trish Michelle. We talked about so much but some central themes that came up were 1) about how survivorship is quiet and hard (often harder than active treatment) and finding your community of people who get it is so important, 2) the importance of addressing your mental health, and 3) the importance of staying in the moment and looking forward instead of looking back. For more on this, watch my IG video here and let me know what you think. These discussions go far beyond breast cancer- apply to anyone living with cancer (including those living with metastatic disease).
These conversations are incredibly important (and need to happen more), and I’m always grateful for opportunities to bring them into the spotlight. Cancer survivorship and taking care of your physical and mental health long-term is a big focus of my book, Beyond The Pink: Navigating Life, Health and Breast Cancer. I would so appreciate if you could pre-order — that is huge for debut authors!!
✈️ Where I’m Headed Next
This week, I’m heading to DC (if the weather doesn’t get in the way) for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Cancer Communications Meeting, where I’ll be part of the process of selecting the press program for the upcoming ASCO Annual Meeting in June 2026. It’s exciting and an incredible opportunity to be able to contribute to the oncology conversations that will happen in the media.
🍓 Recipe I’m Loving
Basil Seed Pudding
This has become one of my quick breakfast or snack options lately. Basil seeds have a texture similar to chia seeds and create a really nice pudding consistency. They are a fantastic source of fiber (2 tablespoons have 15 grams!) as well as calcium, iron and magnesium.
This is the recipe I have been using:
2 tablespoons basil seeds
1 cup milk of choice (I usually use almond milk)
You could add 1 teaspoon of maple syrup or honey as well and a splash of vanilla. Mix and let sit for about 15 minutes (or overnight in the fridge). Top with whatever you want! I have been doing lots of berries, coconut flakes, and cacao nibs.
📚 What I’m Reading
I just finished Kin by Tayari Jones. 5 stars!! I loved it and didn’t want it to end.
I’m debating between Strangers by Belle Burden or Clutch by Emily Nemens for my next read. I also just ordered an updated copy of The Emperor of all Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherjee - this is a book that chronicles the history of cancer (one of my all time favorite books and so beautifully written). I read it initially when I was an internal medicine resident back in 2012 - an updated version was released with 4 new chapters detailing what was happened in oncology in the last decade+ (and it has been a lot!) I’m excited to read the new material but also re-read the original book given that I wasn’t even an oncologist yet when I read it the first time.
📺 What I’m Watching
Lessons in Chemistry (the book was great and the show is fun), The Pitt (so accurate on many levels), and Virgin River (new season is here- they had a breast cancer storyline that started last season so will see what they do with it and how accurate it will be). I don’t have much time to watch TV so I ended up watching 10-15 minutes a day (and it takes me forever to get through anything!)
🎧 What I’m Listening To
Call Your Doctor Podcast just started by Dr. Lucky Sekhon and Dr.Alicia Robbins. A brand new, evidence based podcast on women’s health, menopause, fertility and everything in between. Dr. Sekhon just came out with her book, The Lucky Egg - an incredible resource on all things fertility and she’ll be a guest on my podcast soon!
If you have a book, podcast, or recipe recommendation, comment below — I’m always looking for new ones! See you next Sunday.

Strangers is really incredible! And I have Kin up next 😊
I just read Strangers by Belle Burden! It was very well written. Not really an uplifting story, but I liked it.
